Back from the Brink

Of death that is. I got a serious migraine Friday night and was in the bed all day Saturday. My head still hurts some today but nothing like it was yesterday. I think it was a combination of dehydration (I didn't drink my usual 10 glasses of water Friday), screaming as loud as I could for 4 hours straight and hormones. My left side started hurting Thursday so I think I ovulated Friday... but of course on the wrong side.

Here are some pics of the weekend which can best be displayed in list format:

1. Pictures taken before our date to Flemings. I'm sporting a new haircut and my new boots.

2. This is a picture of the flower arrangement from the last Supper Club. It was so pretty I had to take a photo.

3. Some pictures from Thanksgiving Day at my Aunt Pam's.

4. A picture of the scoreboard when I THOUGHT Alabama was going to win. Seriously! How did Auburn come back from a 24 pt deficit to beat us? It was so heartbreaking.Did you notice that in all of these photos I'm wearing short sleeves? That is because the state of Alabama is having a bit of an identity crisis. Wednesday and Thursday highs were in the seventies and then Friday it dropped to the forties! Just in time for the game! We were freezing.

Happy Thanksgiving

Our Thanksgiving holiday started out beautifully with a trip to Fleming's last night. I had the seared scallops and the Hubs got the filet mignon. I tried to sneak out my camera and take a picture of his ecstasy filled face as the steak melted like butter in his mouth... but he assured me it would be inappropriate to snap a photo in such a classy establishment. So you'll just have to take my word that it was DELICIOUS! As heavenly as the dinner was, if I'm going to spend $100+ on something I would rather it be clothes (or boots) than food, but I suppose we can splurge once a year on a fancy restaurant.

Today we're off to my Aunt Pam's house for a large family meal and then tomorrow is the biggest Iron Bowl I can remember. And guess what.... I have a ticket! My fabulous friend, Heather, invited me to go with her! Roll Tide! I will post pictures of all of this later in the weekend.

I have so much to be thankful for this year. SO MUCH! I have a wonderful husband, a beautiful stepdaughter, a great family and extended family, a darling goddaughter, fabulous friends, the sweetest puppy in the world, we're financially stable in these tough times, we both have great jobs, we're both healthy, we live in a free country where I can express all of my thoughts and fears without fear of persecution, the list goes on and on... But still my heart is a little heavy for the child that should have been born two years ago this month. Our little girl. Please give your babies an extra hug and remember us and the other families who have suffered a loss in your prayers this holiday season. I'll also be remembering the troops (and their families) who are still away from home so that we can celebrate this holiday in freedom.

John and I hope you have a safe and

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Date Night

The Hubs and I had a date night Saturday. We were planning to go to Flemings but the only reservation time available was 9:15. Instead we went to one of my favorites, Surin 280, which was quite tasty. Here's a picture of John licking his plate. I can't take him anywhere...
We still want to go to Flemings so he made a reservation for Wednesday night. That's right people!!!! The couple that goes out to eat once/month is going out twice in one week! AND - we're planning to go see Harry Potter one night this week! Look out your windows folks... you just might see a pig fly by.

Also this weekend, after months of searching, I finally found my black boots! Aren't they fabulous? Even Lexi loves them! You would think a plain, black pair of tall boots wouldn't be so hard to find but I had to go to dozens of stores to get these babies!

Inspired

I was inspired this weekend by a 12 year old girl. The team that Tristan played in the finals had a catcher named TAZ too. How odd is that? And dare I say that she was as good as our little TAZ! She could throw the ball down to 2nd base with pinpoint accuracy... while on her knees! The 2nd base girl would stick her glove out and the ball came right to it! It was amazing! She also hit the ball to the fence both times she was up to bat. She was so good!

Now for the inspiring part: She had an artificial leg! I didn't even know until I noticed she had a different kind of squat behind the plate. When I realized why she was squatting that way and walking with a limp I was so inspired. Missing a limb didn't keep her from going after her dream. And not only did she get on the team, she was in one of the most challenging positions. And they didn't just let her on the team to boost her morale... no. no. She was GOOD! She proved to everyone that you CAN do anything you want with hard work and dedication.

Congratulations are in Order

First - Congratulations to Tristan! I didn't realize until yesterday that not only was this her last tournament of the year but it was the World Series! I knew there were more teams than usual (22 to be exact) but for some reason it didn't dawn on me that it was the World Series. WELL - guess who won the World Series....

Second - Congratulations to John for being such a Wonderful Dad! His soccer championship game was at the exact same time as Tristan's Championship Game. He gave up his game to watch hers even though his team was going to have to play down a man. He felt so guilty for letting his boys down but he didn't even think twice about going.
Third - Congratulations to Kara and her husband. She's the lady who was on the exact same IVF cycle as I was. Our appointments were almost always 15 minutes apart. Well... she and her husband decided to adopt and their baby boy was born this month. I can't believe how fast it happened for them!

Fourth - Congratulations to...
The University of Alabama!! John and I went to the game Saturday and it was so exciting! I was pretty nervous because Mississippi State has a very good ball team. But our boys pulled out the victory!

Last - Congratulations to Auburn. It really hurts me to say that with their victory over Georgia on Saturday they locked their place in the SEC Championship game. Even if we beat them next Friday they'll still go to the Championship game because we've lost two games and they're undefeated. I hate that we lost those two games but there's nothing we can do about that. What we can do is wish Auburn luck in that game so that they'll be able to go to the National Championship Game. It will be great for the state of Alabama to have two teams win back to back championships. HOWEVER, even if they have one loss they should still be able to go so... ROLL TIDE!! I hope we're they're one loss!

Couple's Shower

We threw Matt and Gloria an Alabama themed couple's shower last night. It was so much fun! Andrea and her husband own Urban Cookhouse in Homewood so they catered the food. It was SO good! I had never eaten there but now I think we'll have start going!

A group picture of the girls. Jessica brought Emma and she was such a good girl!

A picture of the happy couple opening presents.

Here's a close up the flower arrangements. Red roses in coffee beans... couldn't be more simple! But they are oh so pretty! AND they will last without water for 5 or 6 days!

You have to have a fancy beer bucket!

This the beautiful bow that Heather made! Isn't she talented!

Do you think Emma is enjoying that red velvet cake??

Tristan's last softball tournament for the year is this weekend. I think she's a little sad but it'll be good for her to rest a couple of months. We're going to miss her afternoon game today because we're going to the Alabama vs Miss State game tonight! Roll Tide!!! She has a few games tomorrow too so hopefully we won't miss too much.

Decorating

First off I want to say Happy Veteran's Day! Thank you so much to the men and women who serve this country so that I can be free! I owe you everything!

Heather came over tonight with her fabulous decorating skills! I wish I had just half of her creativity! I can't wait to post the pictures after our party tomorrow night. Stay tuned...

Questions

I still have a lot of unanswered questions...

Can I not keep a pregnancy because of an egg issue? Or is it because my body attacks the embryo? If John and I used a surrogate would it work? If we used donor embryos would I be able to keep the pregnancy? Or is the problem me and my eggs so I would need a surrogate AND donor embryos? It's too much to comprehend right now. However, I know my time is running out. My clock is ticking so loudly that it's all can hear sometimes.

My doctor doesn't really have an answer for any of the questions. I think she's leaning toward my issue being an egg quality problem. But she doesn't know for sure that if we got donor eggs that I would be able to carry a child. It would be more trial and error.

For now John and I have decided that I will have the recommended surgery in January and try a few more injectable cycles. If those fail... we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Now for something that won't bum you out:
My Favorite 100 Calorie Snack!

8 Reduced Fat Wheat Thins
1 Laughing Cow French Onion Wedge

A Special Visit

Jessica and Emma came by to see us today. John was playing soccer so he missed them but Lexi and I had a great time with them. Look at these sweet pictures she brought me....

The Hubs and I spent most of the day cleaning the house. We're throwing a Couple's Dinner for Gloria on Friday. I do love to entertain but John's obsession with the removal of shoes makes it difficult to have more than a few people over. I've already braced him for the fact that about 15 people will be walking around the house with shoes on so hopefully he'll be okay. It's not like our carpet is new or even super clean for that matter. AND we only have one room on the main level that has carpet. I think he'll live through it. My friend, Heather, is coming over to help me decorate. She is FABULOUS at that kind of stuff so I'm excited she's willing to help.

Now for the traumatic news of the weekend... Alabama lost on Saturday. So sad. Our boys did well but not as well as LSU. John and I are going to next weekend's game against Mississippi State so I hope they shake off the loss and are ready to play.

Bowling Night

I haven't shared much about my new job so last night's Bowling Night gives me the perfect opportunity. It's a "young" company which I really like. The head partner is only 38 and the other partner is younger than I am. That is CRAZY to me. I always feel so much younger than everybody. Does that mean I'm immature??? I hope not! I guess maybe I'm just young at heart. Yeah.... that's what it is...

This first picture has the scores of our first match. As you can see, Bill stomped us all! 194-Really? I almost broke 100 which would have been a big deal for me. 96 was so close.

This is a picture of Bill and his wife and daughter. Coincidentally, Bill is the father of Tristan's best friend. Small world. When I was interviewing for the job I was surprised to see him walk through the door as one of the interviewers.

Here's one of the mediocre bowling couple.

And this one is to show my great form!
It was a lot of fun and John got to finally put some faces with some names.

Tristan left last night to go on a weekend church retreat. She was very excited but nervous because they didn't allow electronics on the trip. So we won't hear from her until Sunday! We hope she has a great time.

ROLL TIDE!!

Chili Weather

It's finally chilly in Alabama so you know what that means.... Chili! I made a big crock pot full this morning and just ate a huge bowl! Delicious! I love this time of year. The leaves are changing, the air is crisp and (best of all) you can wear boots. I found THE black boots that I've been searching high and low to find at the new outlets Saturday. Of course, just my luck, they didn't have my size. But they were gracious enough to take my name and number in case they got some more. Now I just sit and wait for the call...

Tonight Tristan is here watching some TV with the Hubs and they're practicing some softball drills. I love seeing how their relationship gets better every week. And, selfishly, I'm glad she will come over here now so I can see her a little too.

A Tasty Chili Cheers to You and Yours
