Oh My Aching Booty

I don't know what made me think that doing 100 walking lunges after not working out for months was a good idea! I can barely walk today! When did I get so out of shape? I guess I know what my New Year's resolution needs to be. I'll start 2012 the same weight as I started 2011 but I'm a lot gooey-er. Therefore, I resolve to firm up in 2012.... at least until we get our baby! I can't make any promises after that. :)

Tristan News:
She goes to her pitcher's pitching lessons so she can practice catching. The other night a pitcher from a local college was at the facility and the girl who was going to catch for her didn't show up. Tristan volunteered to catch. The pitcher took it easy on her at first b/c she's only 13. After a few pitches she realized how good Tristan is and started giving it her all! She told Tristan that she's awesome and can't believe she's only 13! It made Tristan's week!
Also, we finally got Tristan's volleyball picture. I tried to take a picture of the picture but I couldn't get the lighting right. Anyway, here's what I got:xxoo

Merry Christmas

I hope you all had a Merry Christmas! We had a great time with my family on Christmas Eve. I ate way too much (and I'm still eating way too much!) Here are a few pics of the day.

My Mom and Sister
Cait, Julie and Mom

A sweet one of John and Tristan

And here are some pics from Christmas Day.

We were so tired after we left Tristan that we went home and had a movie day. It was a cold, dreary, rainy Christmas Day which was perfect for snuggling on the couch together.

Busy Week

My goodness it's been a busy week. I've had dinner with the Harbert girls Monday night, Supper Club Tuesday night, movies with John and Tristan last night and dinner with Rebecca and Bree tonight. I am worn out! I'm ready for my four day weekend!

Here are some pics of Tristan and Chloe from last night. She looks so grown up!

We hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas!

Who Knew

Who knew there were infertility cards? Hallmark thinks of everything! My good friend Gloria (aka G-slo) sent me this card this week. She's so sweet! She wrote a lovely note on the other side but I'll let that stay a special moment for just the two of us (and the hubs... so just the three of us.)

I apologize for the picture quality. I took it with my iPhone instead of my new fancy, shmancy camera.

This has been a busy week so I apologize for my lack of posting. I'm the president of the Charitable and Social Committee at work so I was immersed in Christmas Party details! Thankfully the party was last night so I can take a breather this weekend.

Speaking of work... I don't know how many of you remember my post about my review last year but this year went much better. Last year they told me I was great and doing a wonderful job. They didn't have any complaints, however, I got a 3.4 out of 5. Well you don't have to be an accountant to figure out that's a 68 out of 100. I got a D! So I cried when I got home that night and was so upset about it that I asked next year for them to not include numbers in my review. The COO came in at the beginning of my review and said that they decided to include numbers this year but that hopefully I'll be happier about my scores. She also said that under no circumstances am I to multiply my number by 20 to get my "grade." Ha! They know me so well. Of course it was the first thing I did as soon as I saw the number. I got a..... 4.1. Ummmm still not an A but at least it's a B. The main thing was that she said I got one of the best reviews in the company and I got my full bonus. Score! I guess I can live with that number.

Last but not least, I want to wish Rach a very Happy Birthday!

So Tired

My mom came up yesterday to go shopping and she wore me out! I'm not used to marathon shopping anymore. (Rhonda - I certainly had to stop for a drink and a snack.) After many hours and many stores I ended up buying one Christmas present.... ONE! I found stuff for myself, of course, but only one name was marked off my list. I'm going to have to do better next weekend!

Tristan came over yesterday and we took our Christmas picture. Here are a couple:
Lexi decided to surprise Tristan with a kiss for this picture.

Our First Call

I want this blog to have an honest portrayal of adoption the same way I was completely honest about infertility. Infertility isn't for the faint of heart and it turns out that neither is adoption. This is the story about our first failed call.

It was Monday, November 7th, only two weeks after we started being shown by AH. I was in my bosses offices at 4pm and when I came back to my desk I had a missed call and a message. I listened as a caseworker told me that we were chosen by a birth mother. I sit in a room with three other people so I tried to restrain the tears and screaming. I immediately jumped up and ran to the closest room... my bosses offices. By this point I had tears streaming down my face. She looked at me in shock and asked what was wrong. I tried to say "we've been chosen" but it must have sounded like "wvlkisj blikjn chlksne" because she told me to take a breath and try again. Ok... breath... we've... breath.... been... breath... chosen. She squealed and I squealed and then we hugged. I then realized that I haven't even told my husband. I left her office and headed to the bathroom to call the Hubs.

He couldn't believe it and made me say it about 5 times. The caseworker sent us an email with information about the birth mom so he opened it and started reading. It was a little boy and he was 4 months old. We both paused a moment; we were expecting a newborn. We decided to look over the information together when we got home. I got home an hour before him so I peeked at the email. There was a picture. I opened it and instantly fell in love. He looked just like my husband. I felt like this was meant to be. We were chosen so quickly and he looked just like John. It was perfect.

Once John got home we read everything together and called our case worker to say we were interested. She told us that we were the BM's first choice and she was excited to talk to us. I tried extremely hard to stay grounded. I couldn't get too excited until we were sure this was actually going to happen. John, however, was over the moon. I'll never forget him texting me on Tuesday to ask if I had looked at the picture 100 times that day like he had. I hadn't. I was trying so hard to remain cautious.

The case worker set an appointment for us to call the BM Friday night. That week seemed like it would never end! Everyday that passed was another day of his life we missed. We were SO nervous when it was finally time to call on Friday. I thought my heart would beat out of my chest! We sat down, put the phone on speaker and called. Ring.... Ring.... Ring.... Ring.... Voicemail. Voicemail?? That's not a good sign. I called the case worker and told her what happened. She said she would try to call her and get back with us. Hours passed with no news.

To this day we still don't really know what happened. She wouldn't return the caseworkers calls or emails so we assume she changed her mind. I can't blame her for it. I can't even imagine how hard it would be to place a child for adoption much less a child that you've bonded with for four months.

We were brokenhearted (and still are a bit) but we know that this child wasn't meant to be ours. Once we do find our child we will be so thankful that it worked out the way it did. We will look at our child and know that everything we went through was worth it. It's just so hard to remember that now while we're still muddling through all of the murky waters.

So now we wait. We wait for our second call. I'm scared that we won't be as excited next time. It feels like infertility all over again. How we were robbed of being excited when we saw a positive test because of the fear. One thing that doesn't scare me anymore is the thought that we won't have a child. Adoption has given me that and it is that gift that keeps me going through all of the lows.

Christmas Brunch with the Girls

First, I have to put one up of my sweet Emma.

We set my new camera to what we thought was a 10 second auto delay so we could get a group shot. However, it turns out that it was a setting to take 10 consecutive pictures. This turned into many amusing "photo booth" shots. Enjoy.

Thanks to Em for hosting! She is due at the end of December so I'm sure she was pretty tired by the end of the party.

A Few of My Favorites

We got our new camera this week! It's our Christmas gift to each other. It's a Canon Rebel T2i and we are loving it so far. Now I just need to take a photography class to learn how to use it. I've taken pictures over the past few days and here are some of my favorites:

1. My tuckered out babies snoozing on the couch.

2. Lexi decided to make a run for it and we had to go into the woods to get her. She was grounded the rest of the day!

3. I babysat Emma this week. This little stinker almost had me convinced that she doesn't wear a pull up to sleep anymore. She was pretty convincing but I didn't fall for it.

4. Tristan came over for a bit this week. Aren't they sweet snuggling on the couch?

5. I made oreo truffles yesterday for the Bundy's party. We had a great time and everybody gobbled up these babies.

6. I also made these cookies from scratch yesterday. This was my first time to make "from scratch cookies" all by myself. I think they turned out pretty tasty!

Today I'm meeting the girls for brunch and then cleaning my very cluttered house! Hope you guys are having a great weekend.

Thanksgiving Pics

This 4 day weekend is flying by. Thursday we went to Tuscaloosa. We had a lot of fun and ate way too much. We then came home and got prepared for our 10pm date with the outlets. Banana Republic had 50% off the whole store so it was calling our names! The traffic was C-R-A-Z-Y trying to get into that place! We got some good deals and then headed to Target for a fire pit. John got his first taste of Black Friday hysteria when an old lady clipped his heels, pushed around him, and got the last fire pit! He was so mad! I told him that courtesy doesn't exist on Black Friday!

This is a picture of two of my cousins' girls. We had a very interesting chat about adoption. Kids are so funny!

The hubs is currently upstairs painting the ceiling of the nursery so hopefully I'll have some pictures soon. He's in the zone right now because he's trying to finish before 1pm. We're going to a friend's house to watch the Alabama vs. Auburn game at 2pm. Roll Tide!!!

One Month

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and I'm thankful that we have one month down on the waiting list for adoption! Woohoo! AH averaged our wait time to be 6 to 12 months so now we're one month closer.

I'm also thankful that Tristan came over Monday night and snuggled on the couch with John for several hours. He gets very little alone time with her so I know he soaked up all of its wonderfulness!

Tomorrow we're heading to Tuscaloosa for lunch with my family. I'm making artichoke bread! YUMMY! Then we'll come home to rest up for some midnight shopping. Oh yes, we are shopping at midnight with all of the other crazy people in the world!

I'm off to start my 4 DAY WEEKEND! I hope you all have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving with lots of love!

Nursery

Whew! This has been a rough week! I was sick for most of it and then John started getting sick on Tuesday. I got a 6 Day pack of oral steroids and am finally on the mend. John never felt quite as badly as I did... thank goodness!

Today we are finally working on the nursery. I've been looking forward to decorating a nursery for four long years! I don't know why I was so excited; I've been taping the trim for hours! My fingers have cuts and are so sore but I finally got most of the room taped. We'll start painting tomorrow. Yay! I'll post some before (purple room) and after (brown/cream room) pictures soon.

Sickly

Tristan's last tournament of the season was this weekend and they won! We are so proud of her! They had a game Friday night, games all day Saturday and all day Sunday. I didn't get to go to any of them because I had a baby shower Saturday night and one Sunday at my house. I'm sure John cheered enough for both of us.

On to the title of this post... I'm sick. I started feeling bad Friday, felt better Saturday but then took a turn to the dark side yesterday. I was running a fever so I was shunned upstairs in my own house for the shower! I get it... I wouldn't want to get any of the pregnant ladies sick. It was just so sad hearing all of them have a great time in my living room while I was lying in bed. I did sneak down toward the end of the party and met some of Emily's family. They were so sweet and said they read my blog and have been praying for us! It's so amazing to know there are people out there I haven't even met that pray for us. Thank you ladies... it's much appreciated.

I went to the doctor today and she gave me a shot in the hip, a Zpack and sent me on my way. Hopefully I'll be feeling much better tomorrow.

1 for 2

At least one team we were cheering for yesterday won. Tristan's team won the tournament! Go Tristan. Alabama did not fare so well. It was a heart wrenching loss but we'll move on.

Hope you all have had a wonderful weekend!

Roll Tide!

If you haven't heard, the game of the century is going down in Tuscaloosa tonight. There is so much hype around this game... #1 vs #2! I just hope that we show up ready to play! Unfortunately we will not be tailgating because Tristan has a softball tournament. Who thought it was a good idea to schedule a softball tournament today? Therefore, we'll be cheering for two red and white teams today... the Vipers (Tristan's team) and the Alabama Crimson Tide! Go Vipers and Roll Tide!!

Slap Bet

John and Raven made a bet while we were in Helen, Georgia for Oktoberfest. The wager was a slap. John won the bet so he got to slap Raven one time... any where, any time. He chose Saturday night when Raven was hosting his annual Halloween shindig. It worked out perfectly that John won the costume contest. Here's the video of John unleashing his slap. Scott took the video and I think his laughing may be the funniest part. Enjoy...

Happy Halloween

We had another fun weekend! We spent most of the day Saturday watching Tristan play softball and then went to a costume party that night. For as much grief as I give John about not being creative, I was so proud that he won the contest this year. He made this costume all by himself! Here's a picture of John with some of his buds. Too funny!
You know it's a party when SpongeBob makes an appearance!
The host of the party. He's a pretty good Cher.

Babysitting

I had so much fun with the girls Saturday! We played Just Dance on the Wii...

And we painted...After painting we went out to eat at California Pizza Kitchen! YUMMY!

The day went by so quickly. I had planned to do manicures and bake some cookies but we ran out of time... maybe next time.

Day 1

For many, many years I have cried on Day 1... the day mother nature definitively lets you know you're not pregnant. But this is a different Day 1. Today I cry tears of happiness instead of sadness because today is Day 1 on the waiting list! Adopthelp received our profiles yesterday and officially logged us into the system. They will now start showing our profile to birth mothers! I have been told that the wait could be one week or one year but at least I know that it IS going to happen!

This weekend Tristan has a tournament so John went down to Auburn to watch her play today. I was asked to babysit our neighbor's girls who are 10 and 7. They already have a day of mani/pedis, playing barbies, and practicing gymnastics planned. I'm keeping them from 2pm until 11pm so I'm sure I will be VERY tired at the end of this day, but I also know we'll have lots of fun. Then we're both going to Tristan's games tomorrow. Another busy weekend for the Z household!

Roll Tide!

My Goodness

I haven't blogged this much since the IVF. I have another update!

1. We received our printed profiles today! I left work a little early so I could get home and ship them out to Adopthelp. See below for some pictures of my sister's hard work. She did such a great job!

2. Our caseworker called today to say that she will have our home study finished by the end of this week! Yay! By the end of this week we should have everything in place so that all we're waiting for is a birthmom to pick us!

Guess What Guys...

We are now online in the "Choose a Family" section of the adoption planners website! I am beyond excited! We finally have a way for a birth mother to select us. We should also receive our printed profiles tomorrow so I can send them to Adopt Help. Once they have our profile they will start showing us to birth moms who meet our criteria.

Click HERE to see us. We are on the top line of couples. Can you find us??

Not everybody all at once

Try not to overwhelm me with your halloween costume ideas!  Seriously people... I need some ideas!

This weekend we've been relaxing and have a nice time.  Jess and Emma came over for a little while today and some of John's friends came over to watch the Bama game tonight. Roll Tide!  We also went to Babies-R-Us today and registered! Yay!  This was the first time John got to register for the baby and I think it made it more real for him!  We had a good time.

Adoption Update:  We should receive our profile Monday and also be set up on the website for Adopthelp! I can't believe it's finally happening!  We should have our homestudy completed by the end of the month, after that... we'll just be waiting for the call! So exciting!

It's Fall!

The weather is PERFECT right now!  I love this time of year.  I am so excited to be home this weekend so we can decorate and do a little fall cleaning.  Tristan doesn't even have softball so the hubs doesn't have an excuse not to help me.

I need some ideas... what should we be for Halloween?  We have a party to attend and dressing up is mandatory.

Oktoberfest

We went to Helen, GA this weekend for Oktoberfest with two other couples. We had such a great time. Our condo was gorgeous and was right on Main Street so we could walk to all of the attractions. The condo had two hottubs too! The little German town had character and charm!  Happy Monday!

Delayed

Ok... so we're a bit delayed.  I thought birthmoms would be viewing our profile today but we haven't quite finished it yet.  I think it will be done tonight so I can send it to the printer.  They have a 72 hour turnaround time so hopefully we'll be able to get our profile out there by the end of next week.  I can't wait until we're done with all of the paperwork!

Is it Already Sunday Night???

This weekend flew by! I need another day...

Thursday night John and I went to the Greek Festival. We had such a good time and look at who we met there.

Josh, Jess, and Emma!

This is a picture of the middle school kids performing a Greek dance.

I've spent a good bit of this weekend at my sister's house working on our adoption profile. It's looking really good so far. Hopefully we'll be done with it this week so we can send it to AdoptHelp to start showing to birthmoms. While I was in Tuscaloosa we stopped by my Aunt Debbie's house to pick up the car seat and bases. Yay!

Saturday Tristan had her last volleyball tournament. They didn't win but she did GREAT! She looked like a rock star out there! She even made the All-Metro Team! Go Tristan!

Update

We're still waiting for the DHR reports to be returned. Our social worker said she is currently writing our 10 page document so that when the reports come back we'll be done. SO - we should have a completed homestudy in 2 to 4 weeks. Yay!

Also, my wonderful sister and I are working on the adoption profile that will be given to birthmothers. I've sent her tons of pictures and ideas and she's trying to compile it into a pretty format. I'm planning to go down Saturday to help finish it up and then we'll print 20 copies and send them to AdoptHelp. SO - in as little as a week from today birthmothers could be viewing our profile! Double Yay!

Check it off the list

We have almost everything we need to bring home baby! We just need the essentials in case we are called at a moments notice to come pick a baby. That probably won't happen but the planner in me needs to be prepared in case it does. Here are a few of things we picked up this weekend.

A sleeper and baby gown.

Several gender neutral blankets.

And of course I had to get this when I saw a baby book about Canada! We also got a bouncy seat, jumperoo, several gender neutral outfits and a shopping cart cover.

When I got home from work Friday there was a gift waiting on my porch. It was from my girls! Jess, Em and LL got us the rest of the essentials we'll need. Bottles, formula, diapers, wipes, a toy and a first aid kit. So sweet! I love you girls! Thanks for finishing off our list of needs! I hope you know this constitutes as your shower gift so I better not see anything else from you ladies. And last but not least, we're getting our car seat with three bases from Debbie and Beth. I can't wait see them!

Yesterday we went to the Alabama game. Roll Tide! Heather had an extra ticket for me but the hubs had to stay outside and watch the game with some friends.

Here is the fabulous Heather! The sun rays in this picture are a direct representation of how unbelievably hot it was out there. The high was supposed to be in the low 80s but it felt like 1,000! I don't know if I can remember ever being that hot! I'm sure I have but I'm making a point here.

A picture of the stadium.

After the game, Heather's feet were hurting so she asked this rickshaw man to take us to our car. There was only room for two so my wonderful husband ran along beside us all the while carrying a very feminine houndstooth cooler. It was one of the funniest things ever! He was being heckled by people on the side walk as he sprinted by them. I'm sure it looked like he was trying to catch the girls in the rickshaw.

Here he is keeping up with the bike. Sorry it's blurry but we were going pretty fast and I was laughing like a hyena!
