RBE

The girls and I took a trip up to see Leah this weekend. We had so much fun and LL gave us the RBE "Red Bay Experience".

1st - We stayed in a cabin on the lake. This was our view!

2nd - We ate a delicious dinner together.

3rd - We made smores.

4th - We took a boat ride over to the rope swing. Here is LL's brave husband playing on the swing. I was definitely too chicken to try this!

5th - We took a trip to the Rattlesnake Saloon! It was my first time to a "saloon" and it did not disappoint. It was a really cool bar in the side of a cave.

6th - And it wouldn't be a complete girl's trip without me getting injured. Even though I was careful and didn't go on the rope swing, Mrs. Graceful somehow managed to fall down and bust my hiney. Ridiculous!

Overall it was a fabulous trip with lots of sun, fun and girl talk!

Beach Trip

The hubs and I are planning a beach trip and we would love for some friends to join us! We're thinking Destin for 5 days in September. We were going to do Jamaica and would still be up for that if we can find a couple to go with us.

A funny story for you:
When we were keeping the neighbor's puppy the hubs would take her out for a walk in the morning. One of those morning, while he was walking her, he butt dialed one of his buddies. When the guy answered the phone all he could hear was John saying "go tee-tee poo-poo! go tee-tee poo-poo!" in a high pitched, girly voice. It was so funny to see him, Mr. Cool, urging this fluffy, white puppy to go tee-tee poo-poo! The funniest part is that his friend was actually in the bathroom when John called. So he called John back to tell him that he appreciated the encouragement but he can handle his business! haha.

Supper Club

I had my monthly supper club dinner Thursday night and loved all of the yumminess! We had a watermelon salad, stuffed peppers and strawberry mousse for dessert! I'm still waiting for official recipes so I'll post them later.

Judging by the volume of adoption questions the girls had I suppose I should divulge a little more information. I'm not trying to be secretive but I don't want to get too excited until I know we've passed the home study.

But... here are a few details to tide you over. We've started the home study process. We mailed in our finger print cards for the background checks on Friday. Once we get those results (3-4 weeks) we'll make an appointment for a social worker to come to the house. John and I will be interviewed separately and then together. We'll be asked about EVERYTHING; how we were raised, about our families, our parenting style, how we met, how our marriage works, why we want to adopt, what we're going to tell the child about adoption, how our families and friends will deal with the adoption... and so on. Thousands of questions! We'll also have physicals and several written reviews from our friends. Once the social worker reviews all of our information she will make a recommendation to the court to either approve or deny our home study. Hopefully they approve!!!

Sickly

We're sick. I have been sick since the day we came back from Canada. Over 2 weeks! The hubs just started feeling bad yesterday.

It starts with a sore throat. The kind of sore throat that feels like you swallowed nails... that are on fire... covered with poison. Then it gradually turns into a stuffy head. Now it has progressed down to my chest. John is still at the flaming throat stage so we'll see if he can shake it quicker than me.

Adoption News: We've started the home study process! This part takes about three months and hopefully at the end we'll be approved!

Date Night

The hubs took me out for a date night last night. We went to dinner and then to see Harry Potter. It.was.so.good! We saw the 3D version which was really well done. I'm a little sad that the Harry Potter saga is over! I still have the book to read so it's not quite over though. You see, I watch the movie and then read the book. The book is always so much better than the movie so I know if I read the book first I won't be able to enjoy the movie. This way I get to enjoy both!

Today we spent the day going to church, to the pool, to Wal-mart and then snuggling and relaxing on the couch. We talked, we laughed, we cooked together...I love a day that I can spend with my husband alone. We promised each other that even after we have a baby we're going to have one of these days at least a couple of times a year.

Book Club Read: I'm reading The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein for book club this month and it is quite good. It's a book written from the family dog's perspective. I find myself wondering if Lexi is like this dog... able to understand so much but unable to speak.

A Fresh Start

It's time for a fresh start! I have changed my blog name to one of my favorite adoption sayings... "I didn't carry you in my belly, I carried you in my heart." I love this saying and I can't wait to tell my child that while I may not have been able to grow him/her in my belly, he/she was definitely growing in my heart.

A sense of calm has come over me about our decision. I've let it all go and given it to God. God will direct our child to us. I just know it. It's really weird for my Type A personality but I actually do have this attitude. I love it!

Although I finally have calm and peace with this aspect of my life, my job is another story. I have such a bad attitude and I need to snap out of it! Of course my work hasn't suffered b/c that Type A personality I mentioned earlier won't allow it but I do complain A LOT! I feel so overworked and under appreciated. I should be happy that I have a good job in a market as volatile as ours. The worst part is that I'm complaining to my very over worked husband who doesn't need to hear it. He's working until 6:30 most nights and then coming home and working from home for a few hours more. He's such a trooper though and rarely complains. I need to let him be my roll model. Hopefully both of our jobs will start looking up soon!

So many choices

Who knew there were so many choices while trying to adopt. We have an appt with a local agency Friday and I've requested more information from two national adoption law centers... Adopthelp and ANLC. If you have an experience with either of these places please let me know.

Attention all of my infertility readers:
I have leftover Foll:stim, Men0pur and Cr:none. Leave a comment if you would like it.
P.S. - I'm using a symbol in the names of the meds so people won't come here from a search engine.

Last Shot

I had my follicle check for our last cycle this morning. It was the exclamation point on the end of the crappiness of the past for years. I had four follicles on the left and none on the right. It was such an anticlimatic way to end our fertility journey. I didn't cry and wasn't upset. I just took a deep breath and let the last four years exhale from my body. It was at that moment that I knew I was 100% ready to move on to adoption. So John will give me my last shot tonight and that's it. No more Drs appts, no more needles, no more surgeries, no more ultrasounds, no more 2 week waits... Now we have a whole new set of worries. Will we pass the home study being at the top of the list. I guess we'll find out over the next few months. We are very excited to start this new journey and hope all of our friends and family will support our decision.

Home Stinky Home

We made it home safe and sound Tuesday night with only about an hour delay. Not too bad. When we got in the house there was a note waiting for us from our neighbor. Apparently we forgot to take out the trash before we left so when she came in to drop off the mail our house "stunk to high heaven". At first she wasn't sure what the smell was so she went through our fridge and threw out anything suspect. It was when she opened the cupboard where the trashcan lives that she found the culprit. How embarrassing! I can just imagine her routing through our downstairs trying to find the stinkyness.

Is it time for the housekeeper?

It's a Nice Day for a Greek Wedding

Congratulations and Best Wishes to Chris and Stella!

It was such a beautiful and touching wedding! I am thankful we were able to be there to celebrate the love and happiness!

Greek Wedding Tradition #3
Shaving the Groom - The best man shaves the groom while family throws money at him.

Greek Wedding Tradition #4
Presenting the Bride's Shoes - The mother-in-law keeps the shoes overnight and the best man presents the shoes to the bride the morning of her wedding. The bride then says that the shoes don't fit and the best man has to pad the shoes with money until they do.
Greek Wedding Tradition #5
Dancing in the street - The brides family hired a band to play the morning of the wedding and we danced in the street.
There are many other traditions from the wedding and reception. I have some great video of the Greek dancing and the ceremony but the internet is a bit slow today so I'll have to post those when we get home. I'll leave you today with a picture of John, Tristan and me from the church.

Greek Wedding Tradition #1

Making the bed.
I thought it might be a little weird making the bride and groom's bed but it was a lot of fun. The single ladies made the bed while Mom Z pointed out their mistakes. After it was made to her standards we threw rice, candied almonds, coins, money and the babies on the bed.

These items represent:
rice = establishing roots
candied almonds = for them to be sweet to each other
coins = luck
money = prosperity
babies = fertility

I love traditions. It makes me a little sad that John and I didn't have a big Greek wedding. However, I still wouldn't change our wedding day. It was peaceful and stress free. But maybe we can renew our vows at 10 years and have a few of these traditions.

Today is Canada Day so Happy Birthday Canada! I think we're going to see the fireworks tonight and have a cookout.
