Date Night

Christian spent the night away from me for the first time last night. My mom kept him so John and I could have a date night. I left him at around 2:30 in the afternoon and I went back to get him at 8am this morning. I was sad leaving him but I knew he was in good hands. AND - John and I really needed a date night! I really missed him though!

Christian has his 8 week appointment on Monday at 11 am. I'm nervous about him getting his shots but look forward to talking to the doctor about all of his tummy troubles. He's been doing better since he's been on the Nutramigen (Yes, Emily, it does smell like monkey's butt!)

I'll post his stats Monday and try to get up some pictures.

7 Weeks

Little man is steadily growing into a Man Child! He now weighs almost 14 lbs! Jeeze Louise! I called the pediatrician this morning because he still has the poop issues. They said we can go ahead and try Nutramigen. Hopefully this formula works well for the poor guy.

Friday afternoon and Saturday he was SO good. He ate when he was supposed to, had happy play time and drifted off to sleep by himself for nap time. He was like a completely different baby! It was a glimpse of heaven. But that's all it was... a glimpse. Sunday and today he is back to fussing and wanting to be held constantly. One bit of a good news is that he went FIVE hours between feedings last night for the first time. John got up to feed him at 1:30am and I was going to take the 4:30-5:00 feeding. Well... he didn't wake up until 6:30! Yay!

I am slowly trying to get him on a schedule of wake, eat, play, nap. However, his reflux can make this challenging. We have to prop him on a pillow for playtime or he'll spit up everywhere. We're figuring it out together. Here's one of his play times where he was smiling and laughing. Too cute.

6 Weeks

I'm a little late but better late than never...

Little man turned 6 weeks old Monday. I'm going to have to stop calling him little man soon since he's already 13 pounds!

We are having a really tough time with his tummy. The doctor put him on Zantac for reflux. After we started that he started having lots of loose poopy diapers. The doctor said that it wasn't due to the Zantac but an intolerance to dairy. So he then switched him to soy. Soy made little man have terrible gas pain. He would draw up his legs and scream as hard as he could. It was so pitiful. I couldn't take it anymore and switched him back to Gentlease over the weekend without consulting the pediatrician (they're closed on the weekend so I couldn't.) But now he's back to having loose poops! I called the pediatrician and they said he needs to stay with this formula at least a week b/c we don't need to keep changing. However, we're going to try a lactose free formula once the week is up. I didn't know this parenting thing was going to be so tough! I feel like I'm failing him at every turn because I don't know what to do to help him. Hopefully we'll get it figured out soon so he'll stop being in pain.

He goes 3 1/2 - 4 hours at night between feedings but he's still eating every 2-3 hours during the day. I think it's to soothe him because he's in pain. He rarely takes a full 4 ounce bottle during the day. I've tried several different pacifiers but he doesn't want them. He wants that bottle!

I'm feeling pretty defeated right now so, thankfully, my mom came up to stay with us tonight. I need some reinforcements to let me know if I'm doing everything I can for him.

Did you wear your green today?

Little man did! Isn't he cute?I snapped a picture of him taking his first big boy bath. He likes it way better than bathing in the sink.
And I got a picture of one of his first real smiles. This isn't the first one but it's within a few days of the first one. He smiles a lot now. I rub his belly and sing to him and he smiles and coos. It melts my heart.
At every baby shower the girls have gotten an "all hands on deck" photo. We usually all stand around the mom-to-be and have our hands on her belly. Since I couldn't carry Christian in my belly we made an "all hands on deck" photo with all of their hands on him. It turned out a little blurry but I wanted to post it anyway. I'm so glad it was finally my turn to take this picture!

We had THREE showers this week! My work threw us a shower on Monday, John's work threw us a shower on Thursday and my friends threw us a shower yesterday! Christian's stuff is in the living room, kitchen, laundry room, dining room and (of course) his bedroom. I can't figure out why a 12 lb person needs this much stuff!

It's so weird to finally have all of our own baby items now. I borrowed bottles, sterilizer and formula containers from Jessica and now I have all of my own... or should I say that Christian has all of his own. haha.

Here are some pictures:The hostesses! One was home sick with a migraine but here I am with the rest of my girls!

Can you find Christian among all of the stuff in this picture? It took me 7 trips to get all of this out of the car! I was pretty overwhelmed by the generosity of all of our friends. I'm not sure if it's because I've been so open about our journey or if I just have fabulous friends... maybe both. Almost everyone who was invited came and gave Christian very thoughtful gifts. My friends are such a blessing!

Christian's 5 Week Stats:
He is eating 4.25 - 4.5 oz every 2.5-3 hrs during the day. He'll go one 4 hour stretch at night. He's a big boy and weighs more than 12 lbs! Yikes!
The poor little guy has reflux. He's been on Zantac since last Monday but I can't tell that it helps that much. It does, however, make him poop about 8-10 times/day which has given him a diaper rash. We had to get some prescription ointment but it seems to be getting better. Here's a sneak peak of his newborn pictures taken on Saturday. So sweet! (This was right before he threw up and peed all over the nice white blanket. Haha! Doesn't he look peaceful though???)xxoo

4 Weeks

Christian is 4 weeks old today! Here are some pictures I took today...

We weighed him this weekend and he is now 11 lbs! 11 lbs! The doctor told me he should reach 11 lbs at 6 weeks. Our little man likes to eat!

My work threw us a shower today. We got a nice gift certificate, some monogrammed items, a pewter cup, a couple of outfits and a blankie. Aren't the decorations so sweet!?!

They also put together a board that was called "Blessings for Christian." It was so thoughtful for quite a few of my coworkers to write nice notes for him.

Finally, I would like to wish my dad a very Happy Birthday! A big thank you to both of my parents for keeping the little man today so I could go to my party. Christian is a lucky boy! Love you guys!

Big Sister

Tristan came by again last night. She got to help us give him a bath. She said it was the first time she had ever seen a boy naked. Haha! I didn't think about that.
