Just Scootin' Around

Christian is now mobile!  He has figured out how to do a crawl with no arms... basically.  He puts his face down and pushes his feet under him.  Then he pushes forward.  He scoots all the way to top of the crib and then we have to pull him back down.  Poor thing.  He's so cute though!

Sorry the video is so dark... he's supposed to be sleeping!

20 Weeks

Christian is 20 weeks old today!  I haven't done a weekly update since he turned 3 mos old by I can't resist.

Look at this sweet outfit!  I love his expression here.  He's looking at John like don't let me fall dude!
1.  He weighed in at 19.5 lbs this morning.  He is killing my back!  If he gets much heavier I don't know what I'll do.  He's slowly working his way to being a hip baby.  I carry him on my hip a good bit but he still leans backwards sometimes.

2.  The past few days he has developed this very soft spoken coo.  It's the cutest thing.  It's pretty high pitched and so light you can barely hear it sometimes.

3.  He has hitchhiker toes most of the time.  This is where he'll have the big toe up and all of the other toes down.  He loves his feet!  He loves to hold them and roll side to side.

4.  He loves music too.  He'll stop whatever he's doing if he hears some music.

5.  He has tried pears, bananas, peas and butternut squash.  So far he loves anything you put in his mouth... except a soother.  The boy does NOT like a pacifier.  He is a good little eater.  He'll eat as much as you'll give him so we have to cut him off at about 3 teaspoons.  He usually has a veggie for breakfast and fruit for dinner.  We haven't tried cereal again yet since the episode.  Maybe next week... or maybe not.

6.  He had his first, official laugh last week.  He's been squealing a while but now he'll chuckle from time to time.  It only happens once or twice per day and only when he wants.  He's such a boy!

7.  His adoption finalization is July 19th!  Yay!  I can't wait until it's made official by the judge!

I love to sit in the recliner and watch him play in his crib.  He'll coo and then you'll see those tiny little feet pop up over the crib.
Love this lil man!

Me and My Dad

This is another one of John's Father's Day presents.

He was laughing but as soon as I whipped out the camera he made this face.  He wouldn't budge from this expression.  Haha!
My parents came up yesterday and brought us a lot of toys from my cousin!  Thanks to my Aunt Debbie, David and Beth!  He already loves the piano that you strap to his crib.

Also, I have thank you cards in the works for all of my Canadian family who sent cards with Niki... no she didn't keep them!  Haha!  I'm still waiting for a few addresses but I should get them out soon so be on the lookout.  I am still overwhelmed by all of the generosity and support of our family and friends.

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father Day's to all of the wonderful dads out there!  The Hubs got breakfast in bed and lots of soccer.  He was in heaven!  Niki and I got some down time today too.  I surprised her with an hour massage at a local spa.  I also got in on the action with a half hour. It was WONDERFUL!

This weekend John and I took our first overnight trip.  Tristan had a tournament in Chattanooga so we left Thursday afternoon and came back Friday night at midnight.  It was really nice to get away, have some alone time, and just focus on being husband and wife rather than mom and dad.  We definitely needed it!
Nice swing!

Little Mr. Independent!  He already wants to feed himself!

Check out the bib.  It was one of John's Father's Day presents.  It says "If you think I'm cute, you should see my Dad!"

So True

I love this quote:

"An adopted child is not an unwanted child; to the contrary. They are a child who was searched for, prayed for, cried for, begged for; received by arms that ached, making empty hearts full."  Author Unknown

This little guy could not be more loved!

He did really well with the pears today! He LOVED them actually!

A Scary Moment In The Z Household

Christian had his 4 month doctor's appointment on Thursday.  The doctor said he is a very healthy little boy and to keep doing what we're doing.  His stats were:

18.1 lbs
26 1/4 inches
Mama's Big Boy!!

He also said we can slowly start him on solids.  I told him that he's such a big boy that I tried giving him some rice cereal a couple of weeks ago and it made him projectile vomit several hours afterward.  He said we should try again with oatmeal.  So in one of my dumbest moments I decided to give him oatmeal cereal Thursday night.  He did the same thing he did when we gave him rice cereal... projectile vomited!  What if this little guy can’t eat cereal??  It's hard to tell though if it was due to the shots he had that day or the cereal.  So we haven't given him anything since.  It's really weird though because he doesn’t vomit right away.  He does it hours later and then continues for 12-24 hrs every time he has a bottle.  It’s pitiful.  So we gave him the cereal at around 6pm and he seemed fine but then at his 11:30pm bottle he was throwing up so hard he couldn’t breathe!  John was giving him the bottle and he came running in our room and screamed, “Get up and get in here NOW!”  I went from dead asleep to feet on the floor in .1 second!  John looked like he was about to cry, there was puke EVERYWHERE, and he was bouncing him and slapping on the back.  I was like, “What is going on in here?”  He said, “He can’t breathe!!!”  Scary moment for both of us!  I was the one who remained calm though and told John to stop shaking the baby and beating him on the back.  So he held him still and I listened right by his mouth and heard the saddest little inhale that sounded like a wheeze.  So at least he was getting a little air... but not much.  I decided if he wasn't breathing better in 60 seconds we would call 911.  I needed to have a plan!  By this time Yia Yia was up and in his room too.  We just let him sit for a minute and he finally got back to breathing somewhat regularly but he was still choking a bit.  Yia Yia and I cleaned up the puke off the floor and chair, changed his clothes and got John to go change his.  I mean it was everywhere!  He's such a trooper that by the time we got all of that done he was grinning and talking, still coughing some but grinning and talking.  John was still so scared that he let him sleep on his chest until 4am!  He’s such a good dad.

Then Christian did the same thing about 30 min after giving him his 7am bottle Friday morning.  It wasn't as much but he was lying on his pillow and the puke shot up out of his mouth like a water fountain.  I quickly sat him up but he was vomiting so hard he couldn't breathe.  By the time it stopped and he gasped for air, some went down his windpipe which made him unable to breathe again.  So scary!!  There is nothing as terrifying as watching your little sweet pea choking and gasping for air.  At least I hope I don't witness anything worse than that.

He also stopped taking all of his bottle which means he's not eating enough during the day to sustain him.  SO - we're waking up twice/night again.  Joy!  Today is the first day he actually got most of his bottles so I hope we're down to just once tonight.

We haven't given him anything solid since the oatmeal incident on Thursday but we've decided to try pears tomorrow.  I hear they're easy to digest and a great first food.  We'll see.  Hopefully he takes them like a champ and we don't have another episode.

4 Months Old

Much happier about his monkey picture this month.
Is it really possible that my big guy is already 4 months old?  Time has flown by!  He's so sweet and a really good baby.  We have his four month appointment tomorrow with the Dr. and I'm excited to see his stats.  I weighed him yesterday on our scales and he was 18 lbs!  Big boy! He's already in 12 month clothes and some 18 months.  Oh my!  All of our sweet baby clothes are too small.  It's extremely hard to find onesies in 18 months.

1st time in his excersaucer.  He's still not sure about it.
About to go for a walk with Yia Yia.
He loves his Yia Yia and that is a good thing because she is now staying until August 3rd!  Yay!  My backside will probably be twice as big by then though!  She cooks all of the time so, naturally, I eat all of the time!  She is awesome!  I don't have any idea how she finds time to cook, clean, tend to the garden, do the laundry... oh and that other little thing...take care of the four month old!  Amazing! I barely had time to eat or go to the bathroom when I was home with him.

He has been doing better with his sleeping.  He has slept through the night quite a few times but not consistently.  Last night he went down at 7:30, we woke him up for a dream feed at 11:45pm, and he slept until 6:45 this morning.  I can't really complain about that.  He's still sleeping in his nap nanny b/c of the spit up.  He takes naps during the day in his crib and always ends up on his stomach.  He usually wakes up when he rolls over and cries so he's been taking shorter naps.  He really needs to learn how to roll back over to his back!

He does really well with sitting while supported and he wants to be up looking around.  He's very observant and loves to watch Lexi.  He has found his feet and will hold them while you're changing his diaper.  He also will grab both sides of your face if you go in for a kiss.  It's like he's pulling you in for it.  So sweet!

How I Know I'm a Mom

1.  I have been peed, pooped, sneezed and vomited on all in the same day... on numerous occasions.
2.  I am exhausted most of the time.
3.  I usually have at least one conversation per day about the color, consistency or smell of poop.
4.  I go to sleep with someone's vomit on me several nights a week, but I'm too tired to care.
5.  Love life... what love life? haha.
6.  I licked chocolate off my finger the other day and had a moment of sheer panic when I realized it may not be chocolate. (Thankfully it was!)
7.  I am giddy when people ask me to see pictures of my little man.
8.  I cherish 10 minutes of alone time.
9.  No matter how bad my day has been, it can be turned around in an instant by the smile on my little man's face.
10.  Last but not least: I love harder and deeper than I could have ever imagined.  I wouldn't change a thing!
