Memorial Day Weekend

It was a beautiful weekend here in the south.  It was bittersweet though as we remembered all of the men and women who lost their lives protecting this wonderful nation.

Tristan had her first tournament with her travel team.  She was very excited to be back with them!  I had an out of town wedding so John had little man for 24 hours.  He sent this picture of him at Tristan's game.
He is so cute!!!

Christie and Matt's wedding was gorgeous.  I'm so happy for them and wish them a lifetime of love.

Such a beautiful couple
Christian is feeling much better and has definitely gotten back his appetite.  Every time the pantry door opens he runs to it whining.  We're working on using his words rather than whining.  He can now say his two favorites... cracker and cookie! haha!  He is so full of life and joy.  He's truly a miracle!

As Christian gets older I'm starting to get nervous about his questions and reaction to the fact that he was adopted.  I have mentioned that I forget he's adopted.  I don't really think about it.  I love him to the moon and back!  But as he gets older I'm going to have to come out of my dream world.  He's going to know that I wasn't able to conceive him although I would give anything if I could have.  While I don't look forward to these conversations, I know that they are necessary.  He needs to know about his birth mother and how she chose adoption for him because she loved him so much she wanted him to have a wonderful life. She did not give him up... she gave him life.  He needs to know his native american heritage.  I just hope he knows that being adopted doesn't mean that he is loved any less...

Ear Infection, Birthday and a State Championship

The title of this post sums up the past week and a half.  Tristan's team went to the State Championship last week and came in 3rd! Yay!  She has worked so hard with this team and I know she's glad to have a break from it.  Her travel ball team doesn't quite work her as hard.  She has her first tournament this weekend with her travel ball team but they're going to let her play 3rd base to rest her legs.

On Sunday Christian wasn't eating which is VERY unlike him.  He was still running around and acting normal so I didn't think much of it.  That afternoon I was hugging him and smacking his cheeks and noticed he felt very hot.  I took his temp and it was 103.5!  We called the doctor and they said to watch him over the night and bring him in if it gets higher or if he starts acting lethargic.  He did fine the rest of the night and his temp was 101 Monday morning.  That also happened to be John's birthday!  They stayed home and got some much needed Daddy/Son time. He was great all day and seemed normal with no fever.  We sent him to school Tuesday but they called me in the afternoon saying that he was inconsolably crying.  I booked it over to the school and found him sleeping in his teacher's lap.  Poor bud.  He lifted his sweet head up, gave me the most pitiful face and laid his back down.  He wouldn't even stand up. We went to the doctor and he had an ear infection.  This is the first ear infection since his tubes.  His ear is now leaking all kinds of gunk and it turned to blood today.  The nurse said that it's common and not to worry.  Ha... don't worry.  Right!  He still isn't eating so we're finding out what most other parents have gone through by 15 months.  It's tough!  It doesn't seem to be affecting his growth though because he was 29.8 lbs yesterday.  He gained another pound in the past two weeks and he has barely been eating since Sunday!

John's birthday pancakes

This was Sunday right after I noticed his fever.  He doesn't look sick to me!

He climbs on EVERYTHING now!  And he's so proud of himself.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all of the moms out there... and especially to my mom.  I never realized how hard, thrilling, exhausting, emotional and wonderful it was for my mom to raise us until I became a mom myself.  Thanks for everything.

I also want to acknowledge the women reading this who are still waiting to become mothers.  This day was very difficult for me during my four years of infertility.  Hang in there...

I had a great day today!  Christian slept until 6:30 this morning!  Woohoo!  And then John got up with him and let me lie in the bed until 7:15!  AMAZING!  It's the little things in life.  We then went to church and spent the rest of the day playing.

Yia Yia - He still has his blue eyes

Lil man had his 15 month check up on Friday.  The first nurse took all of his measurements and then walked out.  A few minutes later another nurse came in and said she needed to meaure his height again.  She got the same thing... maybe a quarter inch shorter.  His measurements:

Weight = 28.8 lbs (93rd percentile)
Height = 34 inches (off the chart)

Little man has grown almost three inches in three months!!  The doctor couldn't believe he had grown that much!  No wonder he's so hungry all of the time!  She is also putting him back on reflux medicine to hopefully stop the vomitting spells.  She also said that he's really smart... of course we already knew that though!

Tristan's high school softball team played in the regional finals this weekend.  They came in first place and are headed to the state championship next weekend!  Yay for Tristan!

Last but not least, my dad had a PET scan this week to see if the cancer is gone.  I am pleased to report that he is cancer FREE!  Yay!  I know he's glad that all of the doctor's visits and medicines are over!

Tristan

Happy Birthday to Tristan!  It's hard to believe she's already 15 years old!!  I remember meeting her when she was only 7!  She is doing great and weathering her teenage years fairly well.  She has a softball tournament this weekend and if her team comes in the top 2 they will go to the State Championship the next weekend.  There is no rest for the weary though.  Her travel ball team has their first tournament on Memorial Day weekend!  Seriously... not a single weekend break!  But she loves it and she's doing great.  She's already receiving letters from colleges and she's only a Freshman!  Crazy!  She is also doing really well in school.  She usually gets all As and Bs.  Smart, beautiful and talented!  We couldn't be more proud!

Christian has been having some vomit episodes and they were getting more frequent.  On Monday his Dr. decided to take him off all dairy.  Yikes!  The kid loves his milk so I freaked out a little.  But he's doing pretty well.  The worst part is that soy milk has fewer calories and fat so he seems to be starving constantly.  He woke up screaming at 5 this morning and when I got him his tummy was growling.  Poor bud was hungry.    We gave him half of a peanut butter sandwich before bed tonight.  Maybe that will hold him.

I was telling him that it's time to go in.  He's not so happy about it.

Please say a quick prayer for my dad tonight.  He finds out if he is cancer free tomorrow!

Spoon fed

My sweet baby is getting older by the second.  And with each second he gets more and more independent.  This is a video of him feeding himself with a spoon.  Soon he won't need his mommy at all!  Sniff... Sniff...

C picks up physical milestones so quickly!  It is AMAZING!  This video shows only the third time he has tried to feed himself with a spoon.  And when I see videos of other babies learning to walk it astonishes me.  C pretty much just stood up and walked one day.  There was only a very short time of "cruising" around the furniture.  And he was so steady.  His speech is a different story.  We're working on adding more words.  Most of his words begin with the "b" sound.  Ball, block, bye, BITE... but he doesn't finish the word.  He just makes the "b" sound and points to the object.  The exception being "bite" which he yells at the top of his lungs! Haha!  We're working on annunciation.

I also want to mention how much I appreciate the comments people leave.  Ultimately, I write this blog so C can look back one day and see how much he was wanted, cherished and loved!  The fact that I may have helped someone along the way is an added bonus.  When I was struggling with infertility I read a lot of blogs and message boards looking for someone who was feeling what I was feeling.  It makes me happy that I can be that for someone else now.

Finally, we have some exciting news!!!  Christian has a new cousin!!  Congrats to Chris and Stella!
